"Compelling, realistically flawed characters and a timely story line, especially in the wake of the protests at the Dakota Access Pipeline, make this one of Florio’s hardest-hitting mysteries yet. ”

Taking on War, Racism and Sexism

“Lola Wicks is back and better than ever. … a gutsy, lusty, decidedly undomesticated woman.  … Disgraced takes on some of the most pressing issues of our time: the triple scourges of war, racism and sexism. How do we face such seemingly insurmountable problems? Not through silence and lies, Lola insists. ‘Cowboy up, sissy.’”

"Florio’s second novel mines familiar ground with another look at American Indian culture along the frozen U.S.-Canadian border territory, with a compelling mystery folded in to add spice to the mix. … the writing is top-notch, and the action builds at just the right pace.”

Dreams and Disasters of the True Montana

"Two stories resonated long after reading them: “Fireweed” by Janet Skeslien Charles about a stranger mysteriously murdered in a small town where everyone becomes a suspect; and “Trailer Trash” by Gwen Florio about two writing friends who compete with one another.

The art of Story Telling

In her decades as a journalist, Gwen Florio told people's stories from places as diverse as Afghanistan and Somalia to Lost Springs, Wyoming, population three. She mines some of the same ground in her award-winning crime fiction that explores issues in the contemporary American West. In her standalone novel, Silent Hearts, Florio turned her focus to Afghanistan and the stories of women in a country that has known nothing but war for generations.
